A defining goal of this project was to bring daylight into every room of this complex, four- level loft.

Light was already a limited resource, since there were windows on only one wall, so we had to use some unconventional methods to achieve this goal.

We provided pathways for the available natural light by placing glass floor panels in strategic locations, allowing sunlight to bathe the lower level walls. A deep, canted frame window placed in an upper level bathroom let light in without sacrificing privacy.

Other spaces were separated by open metal railings instead of walls to maximize daylight and visual connections. By capturing and directing the available sunshine onto at least one surface in every room, we were able to create an open, airy quality throughout the loft.
